Shirley Ann Monson

Shirley Ann Monson, age 89, of Blue Earth, died Sunday, February 4, 2018, at St. Lukes Lutheran Care Center. Visitation time will be from 3:30pm-5:30pm Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at St Lukes Chapel 1219 S. Ramsey Street in Blue Earth and 1 hour before the service at the church. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2018, at 10:30 AM, at United Lutheran Church in Frost, with Rev. Arne Halbakken officiating.  Burial will be in United Lutheran Cemetery, Frost.  Web tributes may be left at www.pattonfh.com Shirley was born October 19, 1928 in rural Frost, Minnesota to Gerhard and Josephine (Amundson) Sandness.  She was baptized and confirmed in Emerald Church at Frost. She graduated from Frost High School in 1946. On March 12, 1948 she married Merrill Monson. Together they lived in Rake, Iowa and Frost until their move to Elmore in 1950.  She worked at Emerson Grocery, Ostermann Grocery and Fischer Drug until their move to Blue Earth in 1967.  She worked at a Department store in Blue Earth for 21 ½ years. Shirley is survived by nieces: Sharon (Butch) Erichsrud, Virginia Johnson, Betty Trytten of Blue Earth and Carol (Mark) Winter of Rake, Janet and Julie Monson of St. James, and nephew Robert Johnson of Northfield, great and great-great Nieces and Nephews, brother-in-Law Virgil (Sonja) Monson. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband and infant daughter, her parents and brother Ervin Sandness, sister’s Evelyn Aarvick and Gladys (Stanley) Johnson, mother and father-in-law Mons and Alvina Monson, grandparents Andrew and Sethona Sandness, and Evin and Anna Amundson.
