Robert Gustav Wegner, 89 of Elmore died Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the United Hospital District in Blue Earth, MN. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Online condolences can be left at www.pattonfh.com.
Robert was born November 7, 1928 to Gustav and Sue (Nelson) Wegner. After high school, he joined the Army and served in the Korean War, travelling to Italy as a lookout and Korea as a helicopter evacuator. He earned the Bronze Star. He was very proud of his accomplishments in the service but was not one to boast.
After returning from the service he went to the University of Colorado where he earned his master’s Degree in teaching. He took his first job in Elmore where he met and married the love of his life, Lois. There they raised two daughters; Kelly and Midge. He taught English in Elmore for 15 years as well as directing the speech and debate teams and putting on plays. He then taught in Blue Earth for 27 years, teaching college prep English courses. After retiring from Blue Earth, Bob taught for 5 years in Florida with his nephew at a Boys Ranch.
Having the summers off, Bob, Lois and the girls always took summer trips all over the country. He was very family oriented and made sure they were able to spend quality time together, making cherished memories. In his later years, he enjoyed doing word searches, bird watching and anything outdoors. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, even when not warranted and his knack of correcting ones grammar.
He is survived by his wife, Lois. His daughters; Kelly Skaden of Blue Earth, MN and Midge (John) Hill of Cherokee, IA. Grandchildren; Justin (Ashley) Skaden, Nicholas Skaden (special friend Ellen Eckhardt), Kyle (Bailey) Hill and Garrett Hill. Great grandchildren; Austin, Aubrey, Madeline, Blake and Rylee. Sister; Ione Biesterfeld.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother; Garmen and step-brothers; Lowell and Wick Schultz.
