Maurine Hoffman age 96, passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center, in  Blue Earth on February 7, 2024. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Ss Peter & Paul Church, with visitation one hour prior to service. Arrangements are with Patton Funeral Home in Blue Earth, Minnesota. www.pattonfh.com.

Maurine Margaret Hoffman was born January 10, 1928 west of Elmore, MN to Roy Wilbur and Katherine Mary (Faust) Young. Maurine attended country school in Elmore through 8th grade and high school in Blue Earth, graduating in 1946. Following graduation, Maurine attended Beautician School in Fairmont. She married Wayne Hoffman at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth in 1953. They lived in Blue Earth for the remainder of their lives.

For two years Maurine worked at Beauty Nook. She was employed for 25 years at Franke Beauty Shop in downtown Blue Earth.

Maurine and Wayne enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips including fly-in trips to Dog Lake, Canada. Wayne died in 1986. Maurine continued her love for traveling with bus trips and tours with friends throughout the United States and Europe.

A cancer survivor of 50 years, Maurine received the Club Service to Mankind Award from the Sertoma Club for her generosity of spirit and dedication for cancer survivors. Since her cancer diagnosis in 1974, Maurine has devoted much of her time to volunteer work and community service. She was a founding member of Faribault County Hospice. As an active member of the local American Cancer Society, Maurine served 20 years as “Service on Rehabilitation Chairman” and participated yearly in “Relay For Life”. Maurine worked with patients in Faribault County’s “Reach to Recovery” program for 12 years. As a life member in the VFW Auxiliary, Maurine served as president from 1978-1995. She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She served as president for two years of the Parish Council of Catholic Women and chairman of church circle. She was a member of “Catholic Daughters of the Americas”

Favorite hobbies were crocheting, genealogy, reading, and cooking. All family members received Afghans crocheted by Morrie. She loved sharing family history learned through her research and travels. New hobbies after moving to St. Luke’s were bingo, music, and coloring.

Maurine is survived by her sister-in-law, Maureen Young and many loving nieces and nephews.

Maurine was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Wayne; sister, Colleen (Gertrude) Zeisz; brothers, Renwick C. Young and Ronald E. Young.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
