Marvill LeRoy Selvig, 95, of Blue Earth, passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday, May 5 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth. Marvill was born March 4, 1923, in Hebron Township, IA, the son of Peter and Mary (Kittleson) Selvig. He graduated from high school in 1940. He received Jesus as Savior and Lord. One night, after attending a special meeting, he met Eleanor (Skogen). They were engaged on Valentine’s Day, 1948, and they were married June 11, 1948. They would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on June 11. Marvill and Eleanor lived on 14th Street for 57 years and recently moved to Southview Estates/St. Luke’s. Marvill worked for Schwen’s Ice Cream in Blue Earth until 1965. For the next 23 years, his career was city letter carrier for the Blue Earth Postal Service. He retired in 1989. He loved to study and teach God’s Word, enjoyed his grandchildren and travel to his children’s homes, and preferred meat, potatoes, and pie. He told Norwegian jokes and read the Christmas Story to his family every Christmas before opening presents. He worked hard and was proud to know everyone’s address in Blue Earth. Marvill loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and granddogs. He was known to all as a prayer warrior, praying for each of his family members every day until the day he died. Marvill is survived by his wife, Eleanor (Skogen) Selvig, Blue Earth; children, David (Tamara), Lafayette, CA, Michael (Virginia), Estero, FL, Dennis (Paula), Evanston, IL, Linda (Mark) Petty, Loren (Beth), Mark (Paulette), Dawn (Paul) Christenson, all of Minneapolis area, Scott (Jill), Cumming, GA; 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was the last of his generation of 10 siblings. Memorials preferred to LBIM (Lutheran Brethren International Missions).
