Marilyn was born on December 28, 1929 in Hartley, Iowa. Marilyn was adopted and raised by her wonderful parents, Ole and Adina (Monson) Peterson. She attended and graduated from Delavan High School. Marilyn worked as a nurse in Winnebago, where she met her husband, Sherman Olson. The two were married on June 14, 1950 in Delavan. Together, the couple farmed for many years near Huntley. Marilyn made many meals for the men out in the field. They were also active members of Trinity Lutheran Church. After her children were grown, Marilyn continued her education and became an LPN. She worked as the nursing director of Lakeview Methodist Home in Fairmont for several years.
Marilyn enjoyed gardening, horses, and spending time with her beloved Yorkies, and most of all, loved her family. Over the years, she and Sherman were always out supporting their children at various 4-H shows, horse shows, and sporting events. They also loved to take family vacations every year. The couple spent over 30 years traveling to Florida for the winter, they also loved touring the country and camping, as they were members of the Good Sam Camping Club. Marilyn was an excellent mother, and always showed concern and care for her children. She loved when her entire family got together.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Sandra Anderson of Gilbert, MN, Bradley (Lisa) Olson of Winnebago, Cindy (Eric) Schutt of San Tan Valley, AZ, and Rod (Shalaine) Olson of Winnebago; brother, Raynold Peterson of Woburn, MA; sisters-in-law, Beverly Schultze of Lakefield and Dorothy Benjamin of Redondo Beach, CA; 5 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Sherman; parents, Ole and Adina Peterson; and sisters, Marjorie Peterson and Mildred (Verne) Behrens.
Marilyn’s family would like to thank everyone at St. Luke’s and UHD Hospice for their excellent care of Mom over the years. Memorials are preferred to either St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center or to UHD Hospice.
