Mae Jean Zierke, 91 of Blue Earth, died Sunday, November 1, 2020 at St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth. Funeral services will be held at Patton Funeral Home on Thursday, November 5th at 1:30pm with visitation one hour prior. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth.
Mae Jean Zierke, daughter of Carl and Alice Leach (Marquardt) was born May 31, 1929 in Winnebago, MN.
Mae Jean grew up in Blue Earth, MN and graduated Blue Earth High School in 1947.
Mae Jean was united in marriage with Howard Zierke on November 24, 1951 at the First United Methodist Church in Blue Earth. They lived and farmed together on their family farm northwest of Elmore, MN until moving to Blue Earth, MN in 1991.
Mae Jean worked in fabric retailing in Blue Earth, MN. She was a master seamstress. She conducted sewing and sewing machine operating classes. She made a variety of clothes and performed alterations of clothing. She made numerous quilts for her children and grandchildren. In the Big Band era, she and Howard would be frequent patrons at several local ballroom dances. She enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends. She was a very enthusiastic Minnesota Twins fan and attended many games at Target Field.
Mae Jean is survived by her sister, June Bleess, her brother Darrel Leach, her son Neal (Denise) Zierke of Haymarket, VA, daughter Jennifer Hauth of New Ulm, MN, son Mark (Diane) Bassett of Chippewa Falls, WI, 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Mae Jean was preceded in death by her parents Alice and Carl Leach, her sisters Carol and Mary, her husband Howard, her son Craig, her daughter Stephanie, son-in-law Randy Hauth.
