Madonna P. Gjerde

Madonna Gjerde, age 98 of Elmore, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at River’s Edge Hospital in St. Peter. Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Friday, February 9, 2024 at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore. A time for visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 9:30AM. Madonna Priticia Ann Thompson Gjerde was born on March 19, 1925 in Hebron Township, Kossuth County, Iowa to Oscar and Annie (Hendrickson) Thompson. She was the ninth of ten children. Madonna married Ervin Maynard Gjerde on May 6, 1948 at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore, MN; the same church in which she was baptized and confirmed and a member all her life.

She is survived by her children, Rhonna (Bob) Jarchow, Dan (Kathy), Douglas (Denise), and Patricia (Stuart) Gray; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild this spring.

Madonna was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard in 2016; parents, Oscar and Annie; brothers, Herman (infant), Norman, Rufus, and Harlan; and sisters, Hazel (infant). Bernice, Lorraine, Ivah, and Murtis.

She loved her family, gardening, quilting, fishing, and God.
