Lorrie Davis passed away the early morning of Sunday July 14, 2024. She was surrounded by her family.
Lorrie was born in Olympia, Washington but her family soon moved to Audubon, Iowa. She graduated from Audubon High School and she briefly attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville Missouri. She was known as an extremely hard worker, someone who rarely sat down, and enjoyed being busy and “doing.” She took pride in her work. She was also a creative and talented artist. Although she hadn’t drawn in years, her creative energy was channeled through her gardening, which included fruits, vegetables and many beautiful flowers, her carpentry work, and her cooking. She loved caring for all animals and would stop to help even the tiniest creature in need.
She loved to see things grow—from plants, to her animals, to her family. She was a genuine and authentic person. No one had to guess what Lorrie was thinking. And if something was funny, her laugh could be heard by all. Not one to ask for help herself (some would say stubborn), she was selfless in helping others.
Lorrie loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, especially football and basketball. Her family knew when they were playing because she would call to share the score, a big play or a dumb call. She particularly enjoyed this pastime with her sister Pattie and son Jeremy. But even more than the Hawkeyes (we think), she loved watching her kids play sports. She went to every wrestling meet, basketball game, cross country and track meet and cheered (loudly). Many times, she drove hours, no doubt while listening to classic rock, to watch a 65-second race, and did so with such excitement.
She is survived by her life partner of nearly forty years, Tom McCollum, her two children, son Jeremy Davis, and daughter, Jennifer Davis (Robert Lominack), and Tom’s children, son Adam McCollum (Sherita), and Jessie McCollum (Justin Snyder); her grandchildren, Clayton, Chloe, Payten, Cathryn; her sisters Connie McPherson and Pattie Frohlich. She is preceded in death by her brother Corley Hansen, father Dalton Hansen, mother Cathryn Pedersen, step-mother Shirley Hansen, and grandparents Beulah and Bill Pedersen, and Cliff and Emma Hansen.
Her laugh will be missed always.
