Lavonne Thompson, age 76 of Elmore passed away Friday, January 5th, 2024 at Mayo Hospital in Rochester with her loving family by her side. A celebration of her life will be 11AM Saturday, January 13th at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore with Rev. Robert Roettger officiating. Visitation will be 4-6PM Friday, January 12th at Patton Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery – Frost.
Lavonne Marie was born on February 9th, 1947, in Blue Earth, Minnesota, to the late Roy and Dorothy Hanson. She grew up in the close-knit community of Bricelyn, where she developed strong values and a compassionate spirit. She graduated from Bricelyn High School in 1965 and embarked on a journey focused on family, hard work, and service to others. On July 17th, 1965, she married Dean Thompson, and together they built a beautiful life in Elmore, they later divorced.
Professionally, Lavonne worked for many years as a dedicated housekeeper in the healthcare industry, primarily at Naeve Hospital, as well as Gunther’s grocery store in Elmore for 26 years. She embraced her entrepreneurial spirit as an Avon representative for almost 50 years, connecting with her community and building lasting relationships. Her commitment to her role as a caregiver extended beyond her profession. Lavonne was known for her kind-hearted nature and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She touched the lives of countless individuals throughout her career and left a lasting impact on the Elmore community.
Lavonne was a beloved member of Shiloh Lutheran Church, where she actively served in various roles. As President of the Ladies ELCW, she demonstrated strong leadership and unwavering dedication to her faith. She also volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, guiding young hearts towards love and understanding. Additionally, she served as a Boy Scouts den leader and was actively involved in the Music Mothers group, sharing her passion for music with future generations.
Outside of her work and community involvement, Lavonne had many hobbies and interests. She found joy and solace in knitting, creating beautiful pieces that served as a testament to her craftsmanship. Her love for reading allowed her to escape into different worlds and broaden her knowledge. She was also an avid supporter of the Vikings and Gophers but friends and family were most important to her. Keeping in touch through phone calls meant the world to her.
Above all, Lavonne cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her beloved children, Todd (Corrine)Thompson of Greene, IA, Jason (Kari) Thompson of Owatonna, and Tanya (Ryan) Dunn of Altoona, IA, 10 grandchildren; Kortni (Dustin) Pizel, Riley, Peyton, Beau, Jayce, Meg, Avery, Amelia, Ruby and Zoey, great-grandchild, Lenin, brothers Kenneth (Kathy) Hanson of Robbinsdale and Keith (Laurie) Hanson of Mankato, nieces; Heather, Melissa, Kelli and Terri as well as many other extended family members and friends. Their love and memories will forever keep her spirit alive.
She is preceded in death by her parents, son Craig and great-granddaughter Brynlie.
