Katie Hanson of Blue Earth, MN, died peacefully December 27, 2024, at her home after a lingering illness. She was tenderly taken care of by the ELM Home staff and the UHD Hospice staff.
Mamuni was born September 11, 1975 in Patna, India. She came to be the daughter of Marlene Hanson on December 30, 1983. A big stork (airplane) brought her. Waiting for her were her mother-to-be Marlene, aunt-to-be Mary Hanson, and good friend Paulette Nelson.
Katie entered Blue Earth Elementary School in January of 1984. She lived in Blue Earth for 4 ½ years. Marlene’s good friends, Carol and Tom Uecker, urged Marlene to focus on what Katie could do, not on what she couldn’t do. Due to her many special needs, her mother looked for a residential school. Tom Uecker helped her find Lakeview School in Worthington which Katie attended for the next 9 years while she attended special education in the Worthington Public Schools. She graduated in May of 1997 after which she moved back to Blue Earth and began her work at STEP, Inc. in Blue Earth. She was very proud of her place of work and socialization. In July of 1997 she moved into an ELM Home and was happy and comfortable in her home.
God prepared the hearts of Marlene’s family and close friends to accept Katie. Katie loved her friends and family and was proud of them. She formed a special relationship with her Grandma Hanson.
The highlight of Katie’s week was going to church on Sunday with Mom. Katie’s presence was fully accepted by the faith family at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth.
Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Dean and Iona Hanson, and her infant cousin, Emma Rae Hanson.
Sharing her memory are her mother Marlene Hanson, sisters: Mattie Hanson and Natalie (Zachary) Quandt with Kiefer and Salix, aunts and uncles: Mary Hanson, Daniel (Virginia) Hanson, Dale (Krista) Hanson, and Martha (Richard) Archer; cousins: Jenny (Jesse) Miller, Thomas Hanson, Andrew (Khalila) Archer with Rhye, Tyler Archer and Amanda Wipf with Remi, Meghan Archer and Andrew Shaw, Derek (Erica) Hanson, Isaac (Sonja) Hanson with Atlas and Wilder, Elizabeth Archer and many other relatives and friends.
Memorials are preferred to world hunger causes, Trinity Lutheran Church, or UHD Hospice. Katie loved everyone who was kind to her.
