John Manville Sabin, age 85, of Blue Earth, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, February 26, 2018 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center. A Celebration of Life for John will be held at 11 AM on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Patton Funeral Home and Cremation Service with Rev. Jeanette Bidne presiding. A Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be immediately following the service at Riverside Cemetery. John was born on November 8, 1932 to Oscar and Amanda (Thompson) Sabin at the Blue Earth Hospital. He attended and graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1950. After high school, John began working at Riverside Cemetery of Blue Earth alongside the rest of his family. John was drafted into the United States Army and fought in the Korean War until his discharge in 1954. After his discharge from the Army, John returned to Blue Earth and began working for city. John continued to work for Riverside Cemetery and retired in 1999 from the cemetery. John was a caring family man, taking care of his mom at home until she had to go to St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center. John met Judy Schaper, the volunteer coordinator and jack of all trades help for St. Luke’s. The two married on March 28, 1987 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Blue Earth. The two settled in Blue Earth and raised their family. John was an active reader, a diehard Viking’s fan, loved whittling and carving, a proud member of the Blue Earth Royal Chiselers, played cards, drinking coffee with his buddies at McDonald’s, and spending time with his family. John is preceded in death by his wife, Judy; infant daughter, Paige; grandson, Riley Garvick; parents; siblings, Jerome (Helen) Sabin, Earl (Billie) Sabin, Donald Sabin, Alice Sabin, and Paul Dean Sabin. John is survived by his daughters, Brooke (Kendall) Hirata and Shannon (Carlos) Leyva; grandchildren; Carla and Nora Leyva; brother-in-law, Gary Schaper; and many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
