Janiece Eischen passed peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by family, on June 28, 2023. Janiece was diagnosed with dementia 5 years ago and fought the disease bravely, but her life wasn’t defined by how it ended.
Janiece Kathryn (Lazor) Eischen was born on September 21, 1948, to Kathryn (Eckhardt) and Nicholas Lazor. She was raised in Warren, Ohio with her younger sister, Sandra, and many cousins, aunts and uncles. Janiece and Sandra enjoyed summers in Blue Earth with their grandparents on the farm.
After high school graduation, Janiece moved to Blue Earth and started working at the local paper. While out with friends one evening at the Fireman’s Dance, Janiece met James Eischen. She would later recall he asked her to marry him that night. They married a year later on May 29, 1976. They had their first child, Jodie in 1977 and Jennifer in 1979.
Janiece was outgoing and social. She could walk into a room and start talking to anyone – no matter if she knew you or not. At her job at UHD, Janiece met many people who later would become friends. She loved talking to everyone there. After she retired, she continued to find ways to meet people – she volunteered at the Blood Mobile and she manned the post office building at the county fair.
Janiece is survived by her husband, James, her daughters, Jodie (Matt) and Jennifer (Matt) and her four grandchildren, Hayden, Sienna, Nicholas and Lydia, her sister Sandra and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all.
A Celebration of Life is planned for August 26 at 11:00 am at the Senior Center in Blue Earth. Memorials in Janiece’s name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org
