Janice Kay Sohn

Janice Kay Sohn, age 87, of Blue Earth passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Goldfinch Estates Memory Care in Fairmont MN.  Memorial services will be held at 11am on Monday, November 20, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 9am. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth.

Janice was born in Winnebago MN on December 18, 1935 to Ralph and Gladys (Olson) Evans.  She grew up in Winnebago and with her father in the Navy, her family moved to Texas in 1942 for four years and moved back to Winnebago. Janice and her twin sister Janet were both voted homecoming queen….after all, the class couldn’t just pick one of them.  She graduated from Winnebago High School in 1954.  She married Duane Sohn on November 27, 1955 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Winnebago and shared 50 wonderful years together.  They were blessed with seven children and loved being 'GG' to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Janice was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and member of Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid and enjoyed coffee time after church.  She enjoyed numerous pets, sewing, hardanger, gardening, canning, cooking and baking.  She made the Easy Three Hole chocolate cake so many times, she didn't have to get the recipe book out after awhile.

Janice and Duane raised their children on a dairy farm southeast of Blue Earth. After their children were grown, Janice worked at St. Luke's nursing home in housekeeping for many years and developed many lasting friendships.

Janice is survived by her children; Michael (Patty) Sohn of Blue Earth, Deborah Sohn of Woodbury, Thomas Sohn of Blue Earth, Mary (Jeff) Doherty of Byron and Mark (Vickie) Sohn of Blue Earth; grandchildren Jennifer, Kurt (Cristina), Lani (Chris), Alli (Darrin),Willie, Corin (Tyler), Amy (Zac), Rachel, Dane; great grandchildren, Karter, David, Amiyah, Avery, Kanan, Londyn, Savanna, Clayton, Trafton and three more to come in 2024; and bonus grand/great grandchildren, Travis (Becky), Addison, Ethan, Amanda (Joey), Opal, William and Angie; twin sister, Janet Rose of Amboy and sister, Mary Jo Zumwalt (Gene) of Columbia Heights.

Preceding her in death are parents, Ralph and Gladys Evans, husband Duane, son Jeffery, daughter Linda, brother Robert and sister Geraldine.

Janice's family says thank you for the great care that was given to her in the last few months. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting memorials to Goldfinch Estates Memory Care or UHD Hospice.
