Donald Roy Scheid, age 96, of Delavan, MN, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Mayo Health System- Mankato. A Celebration of Life for Don will be held at 1PM Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Hope United Methodist Church, Blue Earth, MN, with Pastor Russ Jacobsen presiding. Visitation will be held from 5-7PM on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Patton Funeral Home and Cremation Service with a Masonic Service beginning at 7PM. A visitation will also take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Rice Lake Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.pattonfh.com. Don was born in Delavan, MN on November 9, 1920 to Roy and Gertrude (McGowan) Scheid. He graduated in 1939 from Delavan High School and enlisted in the United States Army. Don was a veteran of WWII where he attended radio and radar school and worked administration for the United States Army Air Corps. Don married the love of his life, June (Fumal), on April 6, 1946 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton, WI. Don and June moved back to Delavan to work the family farm and raise four children. Don farmed for over 50 years and raised purebred Duroc hogs. In their later years, Don and June spent their winters in Florida and enjoyed round and square dancing, golfing, boating, and fishing. Don loved having his children and grandchildren visit. Don was president and served on the board of the Minnesota Pork Producers, a board member of the Delavan Grain Elevator, a 33rd Degree Mason, and a 60 year member of the Zuhrah Shrine. Don is survived by his wife of 71 years, June; children, Gwen Mielke, Steven (Mavis) Scheid, Merre Kivlin; grandchildren, Jennifer (Matt) Rauscher, Chris Uecker, Nicholas (Crystal) Uecker, Megan (Aron) Goshorn, Nathan Scheid (fiancée BreAnne), KayLynn (Jarin) Smith; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Meredith Bloomquist of Moorhead, MN; and many other loving relatives and friends. Don is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathryn Sakal; infant brother, Robert; and brother-in-law, Aldrich Bloomquist.
