Craig Weir, age 70 of Delavan, passed away on Friday March 11, 2022 at United Hospital District in Blue Earth. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am Thursday March 17th at Hope United Methodist Church in Blue Earth with Rev. Lee Miller officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday March 16th from 4:30 – 7pm at Patton Funeral Home and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth.
Craig was born on May 5, 1951 to Kenneth and Catherine (Kiehm) Weir in Winnebago, MN. He attended Winnebago High School and graduated in 1969. He attended Mankato State for Computer Science and received his pilot’s license during that time. He married his high school sweetheart, Tonia Walker on June 10, 1972 in Delavan, MN and together they raised two sons, Spencer and Jordan.
Craig was a lifelong farmer who raised corn and soybeans in the Delavan area for nearly five decades. He was active in aviation for many years where he flew ag planes as well as flying recreationally. Craig was a dedicated community member serving as a volunteer firefighter for over 20 years and served on many boards throughout his life including the Delavan and Blue Earth Area School Boards as well as several church boards. He was also a board member of the Faribault County, Minnesota and American Soybean Associations, and a founding member of the Corn Plus ethanol plant.
Over the years Craig enjoyed many hunting and fishing adventures with friends and family. He was also an avid sports fan and loved watching his kids and grandkids play sports. In recent years, traveling the country to watch Jordan race while enjoying the camaraderie at the track became a new favorite pastime. Craig was easygoing and kept a positive attitude even after learning of his cancer diagnosis in 2017. His determination to beat cancer along with his willingness to always lend a hand or offer advice from the many years of experience he had, speaks volumes to his character. He was a man of many talents and could tackle any project around the house or farm whether as a plumber, electrician, carpenter, welder or mechanic.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife Tonia of Delavan, sons; Spencer (Shelly) Weir of Delavan and Jordan (Ami) Weir of Delavan. His granddaughters; Emersen, Ivy and Jersey Weir. Brothers; Brian Weir (Ann Houghton) and Dolf (Karen) Weir; brother-in-law David More; brother-in-law Kevin (Jannette) Walker.
He is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Weir, his mother Catherine Weir; sister Shauna More; father-in-law and mother-in-law Roland and Delores Walker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The Delavan Fire Department or Hope United Methodist Church.
