Constance “Connie” Mundale Helgeson, 99, of Blue Earth, passed away at the United Hospital District on Saturday, June 9, 2018. Connie was born on January 3, 1919 to Isaac and Ida (Peterson) Mundale in rural Frost, MN. She graduated from Bricelyn High School in 1935. Following normal training in Blue Earth she began her teaching career in a country school at the age of seventeen. While a young teacher she met Earl Helgeson and they married in 1942. After her marriage she continued further education and achieved her bachelor’s degree from Mankato State College in 1968. She taught in the Hollandale, Frost, and Blue Earth public school systems, retiring in 1983. Connie recalled that she loved teaching and felt really fortunate to have Earl’s full support. Connie was very active in community service and contributed in many ways to South Blue Earth Lutheran Church. She initiated the children’s theater program in Frost and served for over twenty years on the board of the Faribault County Historical Society. Connie traveled widely throughout the United States and overseas. Connie is survived by her children, Christine (Adrian) Hodgson of England, Richard (Kathy Huntington) Helgeson of Minneapolis; daughter-in-law, Diane Helgeson of Savage; grandchildren, Matt (Heather) Helgeson, Carrie (Dan) Dikken, Charles (Aiasha Khalid) Hodgson, and Geoffrey (Amanda) Hodgson; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Zack, Luke, Avery and Anabelle; brother, Charles (Susan) Mundale; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Connie is preceded in death by her husband, Earl; son, Bruce Helgeson; sister, Pauline (Sid) Sailor. Memorials preferred to St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center and Faribault County Historical Society.
