Beverly Loraine Olson, 94, of Blue Earth area went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.
Beverly was born May 21, 1927 the only child of Lewis and Bertha (Selgelid) Evans in Blue Earth, Minnesota.
Beverly graduated from Blue Earth High School. After high school, she joined the US Army Cadet Nursing Corp during WWII, which allowed her to attend and graduate from Fairview School of Nursing with her RN degree. After obtaining her degree, she married Merle Olson on September 12, 1948. They settled on the family farm near Blue Earth where they were dairy farmers. This summer Beverly was honored at the county fair where she proudly accepted the century farm award.
Beverly and Merle were active in their nine children’s lives. Summers were especially busy with 4-H. They didn’t stop there they also found time to host Minnesota Agricultural Student Trainers from foreign countries for over a decade.
Beverly and Merle’s Christian faith caused them to reach out to others. They aided two Vietnamese families and fostered 15 children and as a result, they won the Sertoma “Service to Mankind” and Jefferson awards.
Beverly lived on her family farm her whole life until April of this year when her health declined, and she went to live at Parker Oaks in Winnebago.
Beverly is survived by her nine children, Karen (James) Gilbertson, Prairie Village, KS; Marlene Olson, Mankato, MN; Leslie (Jo) Olson of Stewartville, MN; Beverly (Howard) Belsheim, Sunrise Beach, MO; Merna (Paul) Nelson, Grinnell, IA; Lewis (Carol) Olson, Des Moines, IA; Leo Olson, Blue Earth; Bertha (Andy) Rock; Winnebago; Merle Jr. (Ann Marie) Olson, Columbus, WI; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law- Lois Olson-Okerstrom, Santa Barbara, CA; Barb Olson, Story City, IA; Elaine Olson, Story City, IA; numerous nieces, nephews and foster children including Huong (Nhut) and many other relatives and friends.
Beverly is preceded in death by her husband, Merle, and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
A public visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Friday at Patton Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at church. Services will be Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth. Out of care for the family, those attending services are strongly encouraged to mask. Guests are also welcomed to watch a live stream of the service at www.pattonfh.com/obituary/beverly-olson. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth.
