Gale C. Lyon

Gale C. Lyon, 83, of Blue Earth passed away April 8, 2016 at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, due to complications following heart surgery.Memorial Service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Blue Earth, with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM. Inurnment will be in the Riverside Cemetery of Blue Earth.Gale was born February 10, 1933 in Beaver Dam, WI, the son of Glen and Hazel (O''Hara) Lyon. He was raised and educated in rural Elmore and graduated from Elmore High School in 1950.Following high school he joined the United States Air Force, where he served in the Korean Conflict for four years.On June 16, 1957, Gale was united in marriage to Leona Henke and together they were blessed with three children; Darwin, Colleen and Craig.Gale worked as a mechanic at L & M Motors for over 35 years.He enjoyed working on Classic ''57 Chevy cars to make them look new again, and was proud of the three he completed! He loved playing cards, going on vacations, watching old war movies and meeting with his buddies at the Air Force reunions.Gale was Commander of VFW Post 4580 seven times. He was also an American Legion Post 89 and Eagles member.He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Leona Lyon of Blue Earth; children, Darwin Lyon of Rosenberg, TX, Colleen (James) Rodrigue of Allen, TX, and Craig (Teresa) Lyon of Champlin; grandchildren, Rebecca (Darin) Willette of North Mankato, Whitney Stevermer of Lindinhurst, IL, Travis Stevermer of Plano, TX, Jennifer Lyon of St. Paul and Breanna Lyon of Champlin.Gale was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lowell (Evelyn) Lyon and brother-in-law, James Henke.
