Virginia "Ginny" May Amundson

Virginia (Ginny) Amundson, age 78, passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at Abbot Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, losing her battle with MDS. Services will be 2:00PM Saturday, September 3, 2016 at United Lutheran Church in Frost with Rev. Arne Halbakken presiding. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, September 2 at Patton Funeral Home and one hour before service at the church.Ginny was born on October 7, 1937, in Litchfield, MN, the daughter of Paul and Caroline (Thompson) Nimz. The family moved to the Frost area where she attended and graduated from Frost High School in 1955. After high school, she jumped on a bus for Biloxi, Mississippi, where she met up with her high school sweetheart, Donald E. Amundson. They were married on June 10, 1955, in the Air Force Chapel at Keesler AFB, the first of 18 moves through their 61 years of marriage, living in 6 states and the country of Bangladesh. Don and Ginny raised their 2 daughters and helped raise 5 foster children while in the Frost area and 1 more (John Gotham) while in Sandpoint, ID and their move to Bangladesh. While living in Frost, Ginny drove school bus for 14 years for the Frost School District and worked at Frost State Bank for 9 years. The couple left Frost in 1977 and settled back in the Blue Earth area after retirement in 1998. Ginny liked to travel (visiting all 50 states!), spend time with family, get together with her coffee group on Monday mornings and volunteer at St. Luke''s Lutheran Care Center, until her health declined.Ginny is survived by her loving husband, Donald E. Amundson of Blue Earth, MN, her daughter''s, Wendy (Jim) Anderson of Marine on St. Croix, MN and Debra (Chuck) Gullord of Visalia, CA, foster son, John (Claire) Gotham of Atlanta, GA, John''s 3 children, 6 grandchildren, Mitch (Michelle) Anderson, Nikki (Matt) Brandt, Brendt Andserson, Brenda (Chuck) Nelson, Kayleigh ( Derek) Verissimo, Candice (Chris) Whitaker, 8 (soon to be 9) great-grandchildren, her sister, Violet (Nimz) Young of Alden, MN and many nieces, nephews and friends all over the country.She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, Elvin and Dorothy Amundson, brothers-in-law, Larry Young, Darwin (Pete) Amundson and Roger Halverson and nephews James (Jim) Oswald and Dan Amundson.Memorials are preferred to St. Luke''s Foundation.
