Doris Young

Funeral services for Doris M. Young, 86, of Blue Earth, MN will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015 at 2:30 pm at Patton Funeral Home, Blue Earth, with Rev. Durene Cornell officiating. Interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth. Doris died on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Parkview Care Center, Wells. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 5-7:00 pm at Patton Funeral Home and one hour before the services in the funeral home Friday. Web tributes may be left at pattonfh.com Doris May Furland was born on September 17, 1928 at home near Blue Earth to Roy Burton and Myrtle Leona (Beason) Furland. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural school, graduating from East Chain High School in June of 1945. After high school Doris attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. Doris married Renwick Young in Liberty Church, Guckeen, MN on June 26, 1948. They lived in Blue Earth for the remainder of their lives.As a busy mom, Doris also balanced family and career as a nurse and surgical technician at the Blue Earth United Hospital. She chaired several church committees at the First United Methodist Church including chairman of the Administrative Board. Doris was elected and served two four years terms to the United District Hospital Board. Her nursing career continued as Charge Nurse of St. Lukes Lutheran Home in Blue Earth. After seeing her children through college Doris continued her education graduating from Mankato State University with a BS degree in Business Administration, Finance and Management. She was able to put her degree to use as accountant and manager for 40 years with Young Masonry, her son Greg''s construction business. Doris was a member of the Red Hat Society, VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries, and worked with the Interfaith Caregivers. Doris was a voracious reader and loved gardening. Favorite hobbies of Doris and Renwick were fishing and traveling. After many family adventures and with their children grown, they were able to pursue their love of travel. China was their favorite trip. Doris is survived by her son Gregory Young of Winnebago and daughters, Jocelyn Hicks of Cottage Grove, MN and Patti Pechacek of Lake Elmo, MN; grandchildren, Ryan (Laura) Borris, Stacey (Clay) Nielsen, Allan (Nikie) Hicks, Jennifer (Charles) Zacharias and Amy Jo Pechacek; ten great grandchildren; brothers, Harold (Carolyn) Furland of Frost, MN, Russell (Ruth) Furland of Albert Lea, MN, Darrell (Karalyn) Furland of Fairmont, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Renwick; brothers Donald and Kenneth; sister, Alice; daughter-in-law, Sharon Young and son-in-law Dennis Pechacek.
