NELLA INGABORG HALVORSON, a long time resident of Blue Earth, died Tuesday the 18th of August 2015 at St. Lukes Lutheran Care Center. The daughter of Carson and Marie (Bolstad) Pederson, Nella was born in Winnebago County, IA, on the 8th of September 1915. She graduated from Rake High School in 1933 and received a degree from Waldorf College in Forest City, IA, in 1935. Nella also attended courses at the Iowa State Teacher''s College in Cedar Falls. Trained as a teacher, Nella taught for several years at a one room school in rural Winnebago Country, IA,. She continued her career as an elementary teacher in LaMoine and Nevada, IA, until 1947. On March 25, 1948, Nella married Orin Clarence Halvorson of Rake, IA. Nella and Orin established their home on a farm west of Rake where they lived and farmed. Throughout her life Nella was an avid reader. Nella was a master gardener before there was such a thing. Crocheting, quilting and hardanger hand work were a few of her many hobbies. Nella enjoyed having her nieces and nephews visit her on the farm and had a special room full of games for those times. Nella was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Rake and later of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth. During her earlier years in Blue Earth Nella volunteered her time at the public library. Nella was a resident at St. Lukes for several years and enjoyed the care and attention that she received from the caregivers there. She is survived by her sisters, Pearl Bear of Lake Mills, IA, Madeline Helland of Northwood, IA, Mae Hove of Blue Earth, and sister-in-law, Ruth Pederson of Mason City, IA, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Lillian Chilcote, brother, Raymond Pederson, brothers-in-law, Hubert Bear, Robert Chilcote, Alvin Helland, and Andrew Hove Jr. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 22, 2015, at St. Lukes Chapel in Blue Earth, with Rev. Dr. Paul Meierding officiating. Internment will be at 3:00pm Friday, August 21, 2015 at the East Cemetery in Rake, IA. Web tributes may be left at www.pattonfh.com
