Carroll was born April 6, 1928, in Lincoln Township, Rake, Iowa, the son of Joseph M. and Bessie (Hauskins) Sandum. Carroll was raised in Rake where he attended school. He was baptized and confirmed at Liberty Lutheran Church in Rake, Iowa. Carroll married Gladys H. Meyer-Rorman in the early 1970''s. He worked as a farm hand for a short time before starting to work for the Rock Island Rail Road in 1950. He soon switched to the Chicago Northwestern Rail Road where continued to work until his retirement in 1993, after 43 years. Carroll attended SS Peter & Paul Church in Blue Earth for several years. He loved to mow lawn, tend vegetable gardens, attend church suppers, enjoy classic cars and visit with friends and family.Carroll is survived by his brother, Boyd (Janet) Sandum of Andover, sister, Glennis Pearson of Ft. Pierre, SD, sister, Peggy (Alvin) Smidt of Buffalo Center, Iowa, several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife-Gladys in 1994, sister, LaVonne Quame and her husband Robert, brother-in-law, Leland Pearson and nephews, Todd Pearson and Mark Evans.
