Sherman Olson

Sherman L. Olson, age 93, of Winnebago, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at United Hospital, Blue Earth. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014, at 11:00 AM, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, with Rev. Dr. Mark Wilms officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth. Visitation time will be from 2:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday, at Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 400 E. 14th Street in Blue Earth and one hour prior to services at the church. Web tributes may be left at www.pattonfh.comSherman was born May 6, 1920, at Story City, Iowa, the son of Peter and Anna (Christensen) Olson. His family moved to Huntley when he was three years old where Sherman grew up later graduated from Huntley High School. Following his education he helped farm his family farm near Huntley before his marriage to Marilyn A. Peterson on June 14, 1950 in Delavan, MN. The couple was involved in all aspects of farming for many years near Huntley, where Sherman was a member of the Huntley School Board and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, serving on the church council. Since the mid 1970''s they toured the country camping with their dog, Princess, as they were members of the Good Sam Camping Club. Sherman was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening & golfing and made sure to get to all of his children''s school programs and sporting events. He enjoyed caring for his horses, dogs and other farm animals through the years. He retired from farming and enjoyed wintering in Winter Haven, Florida and spending summers in Clearwater, MN since the mid 1980''s. Until moving permanently to Winnebago, at age 90, Sherman helped on the farm during spring planting and harvest time. Sherman is survived by his wife, Marilyn Olson of Winnebago, daughter, Sandra Anderson of Gilbert, MN, son, Bradley (Lisa) Olson of Delavan, daughter, Cindy (Eric) Schutt of Oxford, Michigan, son, Rod (Shalaine) Olson of Winnebago, his sisters: Beverly (Wayne) Schultz of Lakefield, Dorothy Benjamin of Redondo Beach, CA., Martha Winslow of Sanford, FL, Ruth Adams of LeSueur, his step brother, Kenneth Olson of Texas, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Pearl Olson, sisters, Pauline Johnson & Mildred Pirsig, brothers, Amos & John Olson, step-brother, Alfred Olson and step-sisters, Lucille Sweet & Marjorie Teig.
