Henry S. Mertens, age 82, of Easton, died Thursday, August 1, 2013, at St. Lukes Lutheran Care Center, Blue Earth, MN.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at 9:00 AM, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Blue Earth, with Rev. Wesley Hafner officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Blue Earth. Visitation time will be Monday, August 5, 2013, 5:00 PM 7:00 PM at Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 400 E. 14th Street in Blue Earth. Web tributes may be left at www.pattonfh.comHe was born September 23, 1930, on the Mertens farm at Milford, Iowa the son of Johan and Etta (Gardas) Mertens. He attended school and graduated from Okoboji High School in 1948. He married Marjorie A. Fliss March 22, 1951 in Milford, IA. They moved to the present family farm south of Easton. They were blessed with four children: Marcia (March 22, 1952),Rodney (January 1, 1953), Ronald (July 3, 1956) and Kevin (September 20, 1960).He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was very active in the organizations of the church. He served his church in about all elected and appointed positions, and also served on circuit and district levels. He served on the Faribault County ASCS committee, MN Corn Research and Promotion Council, National Cattleman''s Association board of directors and was very active in the MN Corn Growers Association. During these years he testified before the U.S Senate Ag. Committee, the U.S. Senate Finance Committee and the U.S. House Small Business Committee. Coming into to his golden years, Henry would look back and say, "The Lord has truly blessed us, our cup indeed runneth over".Henry S. Mertens is survived by his son, Ronald (Deborah) Mertens of Wells, his son, Kevin (Diana) Mertens of Easton, Siblings, Janice Stevermer of Blue Earth, Lucille Brewer of Lebanon, MO, & William (Patricia) Mertens of Springfield, MO. and 10 grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, infant son Rodney, daughter Marcia, parents, brother Paul, and sister Elsie Wahlman.
