John J. Sonich, age 92, of Blue Earth, died Saturday, May 26, 2012, at St. Luke''s Lutheran Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at 2:00 PM, at St. Luke''s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, with Rev. Karl Rydholm and Rev. Dr. Mark Wilms officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth. Visitation time will be one hour prior to services at St. Luke''s. Web tributes may be left at www.pattonfh.com Memorial donations are preferred to St. Luke''s Lutheran Care Center or Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth.John was born May 21, 1920, in Cleveland, OH, the son of Peter and Alexandra (Wojasowicz) Sonich. He was raised in Cleveland and later Kansas City, Mo. where he graduated from Lathrop High School in 1938. He was married to Marjorie P. Dalton on May 31, 1941 in Rockford, Illinois. John spent his career in the military entering in 1940. He became a comptroller in Army Hospitals being stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, at Tripler General Hospital in Hawaii, at Ft. Benning, Georgia, in Korea and at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver. He was an officer most of his career attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He retired in 1970 and enjoyed bowling, snow skiing, playing the accordion and the companionship of his dog. He was a very talented artist producing many wonderful paintings through the years.John is survived by his son, Jerry (Jan) Sonich of Blue Earth, his daughter, Sheila Roslan of Aberdeen, Washington, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Mary Kowalski, sisters, Anna Marie Owen & Barbara Peterson and step-brother, Leo Sonich.
