John C. Hensley, age 73, of Spirit Lake, Iowa died Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 29, 2012, at 1:30 PM, at Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Blue Earth, with Rev. Reid Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Elmore, Minnesota. Visitation time will be from 11:30 AM until service time on Monday at Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 400 E. 14th Street in Blue Earth. Web tributes may be left at www.pattonfh.comJohn was born December 20, 1938, Calvin, Kentucky, the son of Gilbert and Betsy (Hensely) Hensley.He was raised in Virginia and had lived in Maryland and Michigan for a short time before locating in Rochelle, Illinois. He worked at the DelMonte Canning Factory and later for ConAgra for several years in Rochelle. He was transferred by Con Agra to Glenwood, Iowa in 1981 and was soon married to Amaryllis "Amy" Hundt on October 5, 1982 in Tazewell, Tennessee. The couple lived briefly in Kentucky before settling in Tennesse in 1987. They returned to Spirit Lake, Iowa in 2005. John loved to polish his cars and take drives to see the local sites. He especially enjoyed a good conversation about politics and the good natured arguments that seemed to follow. He was proud to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.John is survived by his wife, Amaryllis "Amy" Hensley of Spirit Lake, Iowa his son, John Hensley of Rochelle, Illlinois, his son, Ronald (Tami) Hensley of Roscoe, Illinois, his step daughter, Teresa Newville of Northrup, step-son, Joseph (Sandy) Newville of Welcome, his brother, Clyde (Lillie) Hensley of Rosehill, VA., his brother, Arnold (Ella Mae) Hensley of Rosehill, VA., his sister, Goldie Miracle of Piggott, Arkansas, his sister, Elzora Dillis of Maryville, TN, four grandchildren: Cole, Logan, Nolan & Jack, 10 step grand children, 1 great grandson, 20 step great grandchildren, and 2 step great great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Clay Hensley and sister, Oma Wilder.
