Dorothy Nelson, age 95, of Blue Earth, died Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at St. Luke''s Care Center.Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 26, 2011, at 10:30 AM, at Patton Funeral Home in Blue Earth, with Rev. Vic Vriesen, officiating. Burial will be 2:30 pm Monday at the Eastside Cemetery, Estherville, IA. Visitation time will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday, September 25, 2011 and 1hr before the service, at Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 400 E. 14th Street, in Blue Earth. Web tributes may be left at www.pattonfh.comDorothy was born September 15, 1916, at Whiting, IA, the daughter of Raymond Scott and Gertrude (Batman) Scott. She was raised and educated in Gruver, Iowa where she graduated from Gruver High School. She was married to Theodore Nelson on December 31, 1934 in Wallingford, Iowa. The couple moved to Mira Loma, California in 1969. Dorothy returned to Blue Earth, MN in 2010.. Dorothy was a bookkeeper and accountant for many years and had worked with the Dept. of Corrections in the State of California, retiring at the age of 72. She enjoyed dancing and traveling. She will be remembered for her baking especially wonderful apple and banana cream pies. She was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church and Grove Community Church in Riverside, California where she enjoyed her bible study groups.She is survived by her daughter Theodora (Dean) Oswald of Mt. Ida, Arkansas, her son, Dannie (Audrey) Nelson of Blue Earth, her daughter, Gayle (James) Meehan of Riverside, California, her sister Phyllis Sheely of Earlham, Iowa, 8 grandchildren: Debra Lundberg, Sheryl (Thomas) LaMont, Dennis (Sandy) Oswald, John (Tami) Oswald, Greg (Cindy) Nelson, Pam (Randy) Anderson, Joshua (Gina) Meehan, & Jennifer (Richard) Hawthorne, 17 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband Theodore, infant daughter Dorathea, brothers Melvin and Robert, and a sister, Marjorie.
