Anne was born May 7, 1921, at East Chain, the daughter of Clarence and Grace (Larson) Gaard. She attended District 58 country school and later graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1939. She attended beauty school in Mankato before enlisting in the Army where she served with the WACs in Tucson, Az. during WW II. She specialized in flight training with combat pilots while in the service. She returned home and was later married to Walfred S. Wally Newman on September 17, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth. Wally was an electrician and Anne was a homemaker. She had also worked at Mensings Dress Shop for 15 years. Anne was a longtime member and volunteer for the Association of Retarded Children and helped charter the Blue Earth chapter of the association. She also an avid card player and loved to play bridge. Anne is survived by her daughter, Leah (David) Johnson of Vicksburg, Mississippi, son, Joel Newman of Blue Earth, her son, Timothy Newman of Blue Earth, her son, Jack Newman of Albert Lea, her sister, LaDonna McDonald of Blue Earth, her brother, Arthur (Dorothy) Gaard of St. Paul and 4 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wally in 1979, brothers, Thomas and Donald Gaard and sisters, Ruth Armstrong and Audrey Roforth.
