Delavan resident Linda Whitney, age 61, died Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Blue Earth United Hospital from a heart attack. She was born October 6, 1949 in Springfield, MN the youngest child of Erwin and Carrie (Christiansen) Schenk. She lived on the family farm until the age of eleven when her father died and her mother and the two youngest children moved to Sleep Eye. She attended Springfield public elementary school and Sleepy Eye Public High School where she graduated in 1967. She graduated from Mankato State University in 1972 with a Home Economics major. She married Dennis Whitney March 21, 1970 in Mankato. They resided in Ivanhoe, MN from 1974 to 1979 where her first two sons were born. In 1979 they moved to Delavan where her second two sons were born. Linda worked at Telex Communications in Blue Earth for twenty six years until the plant closed. The past two and one-half years she was working at Caseys General Store in Mapleton. She enjoyed farming, gardening, fishing, bird watching, going to rummage sales, playing with her grandchildren, traveling to visit her sons and sharing jigsaw puzzles with her family during get-togethers. Linda is survived by her husband, Dennis Whitney of Delavan, sons: Troy of Chaska, Chad (Jessica) of Delavan, Todd of Brookings, SD, and John of Fargo, ND. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Zander, Tricity & Willow, a brother, Alvin (Angie) Schenk, sisters, Mary Schroeder & Ruth (Eldon) Hartwigsen, mother-in-law, Evelyn Whitney, sister-in-law, Pam (Phil) Hartmann and brother-in-law, Bruce (Lynn) Whitney. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Erwin Schenk, Jr.
