Mary A. Smith was born May 16, 1931, at Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Dr. William and Helen Shepard. She was raised in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from St. Joseph Academy. Mary married Edwin Aukes and he preceded her in death. She married James F. Smith on September 3, 1966 at St. Paul, MN and they resided on their farm place at Pilot Grove. James preceded her in death on April 12, 2006. Mary has lived with her daughter, Pat at Blomkest, MN these past two years and recently has been a resident of Golden Living Center in Olivia. Mary enjoyed working as a farmwife, helping in the fields especially running lunches to the guys. She always kept her lawn looking very nice and took such good care of her many cats. Mary collected dolls, beanie babies, teapots and thimbles. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and being up north at the summer cabin on Whitefish Chain of Lakes. One of her favorite pastimes was going to the casino with her husband, Jim. Mary especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren. Mary is survived by her daughter, Patricia (and husband Randall) Fath of Blomkest, her step daughter, Lori (and husband Steven) Meyer of Welcome, her step son, Jamie (and wife Robin) Smith of Blue Earth, her step daughter, Kristine (and husband Jim) Bowder of LeSeuer, her step son, Scott (and wife Julie) Smith of Blue Earth, her sister-in-law, Virginia (and husband Ronald) Ristau of Elmore, her eleven grandchildren: Kyle, Brooke, Brad, Josha, Janica, Jarin, Summer, Taylor, Crystal, Jordan and Brody; and numerous great-grandchildren.Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands and her grandson, Jamis Smith.
