He was born November 10, 1952, in Fairmont, the son of Lester and Lillian (Brockman) Bassett. Rodney was raised and educated in the East Chain area where he was a 1970 graduate of East Chain High School. He attended vocational school in Austin, MN where he earned an associates degree in electronics. He had worked on the family farm and at Hodgeman Construction for a time before his marriage to Judy Ann Bramer on November 25, 1981 in Fairmont. The couple moved to Winnebago and Rodney began working for Telex Co. and had owned several rental properties. He eventually worked as a realtor for Century 21 Co. as well. The couple moved to Blue Earth in 1996 where Rodney continued working with Telex until his retirement in 2008 after 26 years of service. Rodney was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and had been a member of the Army National Guard. He especially loved attending many car shows all over the United States with his family and collecting and showing vintage cars. Rodney John Bassett is survived by his wife, Judy Bassett of Blue Earth, his son, Jon (Missy) Bassett of New Ulm, his daughter, Catina (Mark) Mertesdorf Rekowski of Woodbury, his mother, Lillian Bassett of Blue Earth, his brother, Gary Bassett of Blue Earth, and his grandchilden, Trenton, Treavor and Shawn. He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Bassett.
