Carl R. Kastner

Carl was born February 27, 1924 in Mauston, WI to Selma Hagen and Richard Kastner. He grew up in the Kiester area. He was educated in Mauston, WI, joined the army during World War II. He served our country in the Phillipines as a member of the 8th Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division where he earned four bronze stars, a Presidential Unit Citation and three campaign medals. After a jeep accident, he was sent home on a medical ship to recover. He returned to work at his father''s car dealership. He also farmed for several years.......He retired from Tafco in Blue Earth after 20 years in 1997. He was a life member of the VFW and Disabled American Veterans. During his retirement, he was very active in volunteering for an adolescent treatment center in Winnebago with his wife of 29 years Lavon (formerly LaVon VonBanks). He enjoyed repairing anything and spending time in his shop, His children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many friends were most important in his life. His favorite pastime was playing cards and puzzles with his wife. Making everyone laugh made his day.He is survived by his wife, Lavon, sons Gregory (Tamara) Kastner of Rochester, Minnesota. Gary (Nancy) Kastner of Delevan, Minnesota. Stepchildren- Dwayne VonBank (Joyce) of Armstrong IA., Linda Olson (Todd) of St. James Grandchildren- Kelly Kastner and Adam Kastner of Rochester. Lori and Sherry Kastner of Wisconsin Step grandchildren- Vicki Carr, Jack Von Bank, Rick Von Bank Ross Olson and Synnova Blackstead and 14 great grand children.
