Phyllis was born October 3, 1919, in rural Faribault Co. MN, the daughter of Julius and Bertha (Miller) Welk. She was raised and educated on the family farm and attended Blue Earth High School where she was a 1937 graduate. She was married to Ivan Ike Owens on July 7, 1942 in Longview, Washington. The couple farmed in Faribault Co. for many years and Phyllis was a homemaker. She had wonderful gardens with impatience and lilacs and enjoyed card parties with friends and family. She was an excellent cook and baked wonderful Christmas cookies. Phyllis did embroidery and quilt work and she and Ike enjoyed traveling on occasion. Her biggest joy was time spent with her grandchildren and other family. She was a longtime member of Salem United Methodist Church, now Hope United Methodist, and of her neighborhood association. Phyllis is survived by her son, Robert Owens of Golden Valley, MN., her daughter, Sandi (John) Randle of Mesquite, Nevada, her son, Richard (Colleen) Owens of Armstrong, Iowa, her sister, Myrtle Gullord of Blue Earth, her grandson, Aric (Tracey) Owens of Faribault, her grandaughter, Amber Owens of Armstrong, Iowa, her nieces, Carolyn (Jim) Kennedy of Blue Earth & Marilyn (Jim) Galbraith of Anchorage, Alaska, and her great grandchildren, Ashley, Alexis & Tyler Owens. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband-Ike in 2000, brother, Aldo Welk, three sisters, Florence Welk, Evelyn Mensing & Viola Welk, and a son-in-law, Jim Lerold.
