Stanley Virgil Greimann, age 80, of N. Branford, CT, formerly of Blue Earth, died on Thursday, December 10, 2009 in Connecticut. Stans birth on October 23, 1929 happened to coincide with the legendary collapse of the stock market. The son of Helen and Fred, Stan grew up on a farm in rural Minnesota where he helped in the barnyard and fields while also excelling in school. Co-valedictorian of his class, Stan went off to St. Olaf College then to Yale University where he studied architecture and city planning. New Haven was also where he met his wife and life-long companion, Millie. Their 57 years of marriage began in Dwight Chapel on the Yale campus. Stan and Millie later moved to Guilford, CT where Stan designed and built a home on Lovers Lane. While living on the shoreline, Stan continued in his profession as planner. With great heart, diligence, and vision, he worked for more than 26 years for the Connecticut River Estuary Regional Planning Agency currently based in Old Saybrook, negotiating with towns along the shoreline on the basics of housing, transportation, the elderly, environmental concerns, and other issues of land use and planning. Stan always cherished his Minnesota roots and returned often with his family for extended summer vacations to visit family and friends. He retired in 1999 to pursue his other passions. First among his many loves was enjoying his family. Beyond being a nurturing and compassionate father, he was the only grandfather of his three grandchildren. He exercised a deep faith, explored foreign lands, drew building plans, made scale models, grew orchids, collected first editions, studied history, shaped bonsai, tended goldfish, grew vegetables and perennials, painted watercolorsand just simply exuded tenderness and care toward everyone and everything he touched. He is survived by his wife, Millie Greimann, of N. Branford, CT; his children Garth (and Lindsay), Amy (and Reed) Carlson, and Eric; and his grandchildren Mallory (and Jamie) McManus, Hannah, and Reid. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Helen Greimann and his brother, Wesley Greimann. Stanley will be interred next to his parents in his much-beloved Minnesota. A funeral service was held in Connecticut and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth.
