Betty Bromeland

March 7, 1922 — November 15, 2008

Betty was born March 7, 1922, in Emerald Township, MN, the daughter of John and Anna (Amundson) Nelson. She was raised and educated in the Emerald Township area where she was confirmed at Dell Lutheran Church in 1936. She graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1939. In 1943 she graduated from St. Olaf College with a degree in English Education. She taught in the Bricelyn School and Frost School for a short time before her marriage to Melvin A. Bromeland on May 28, 1944 at Dell Lutheran Church. Melvin owned Bromeland Excavating where Betty had been the bookkeeper and business manager for many years. The couple enjoyed traveling and wintering in Mesa, Arizona. Betty was a longtime member of United Lutheran Church in Frost where she was active in circle, ladies aid and taught Sunday school. Betty was known for her great sense of humor. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and her husband, Melvin to whom she was married for 64 years. Betty loved following her childrens activities in school and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Betty is survived by her son, Jim (& Carol) Bromeland of Houston, MN., her son, Bob (& Barb) Bromeland of Blue Earth, her daughter, Mary (& Bill) Halverson of Frost, her son, Tom Bromeland of Blue Earth, her brother, Wesley (& Irene) Nelson of Blue Earth, her sister in law, Gertrude Mohr of Frost, her sister in law, Thelma Bromeland of Frost, 10 grandchildren: Carrie (Bob Decheine) Bromeland, Sarah (Chad Rector) Bromeland, Matthew (Helen McClure) Bromeland, Joseph A. Bromeland, Joseph M. Bromeland, William A. (Shawn) Bromeland, Jill (Todd) Christianson, Leah (Dan) Kluender, Ryan Bromeland & Tyler Bromeland, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother- Serf, husband- Melvin in September 2008, brother, Donald Nelson, and sisters, Eileen Bergsetter & Alice Tellefson.
