Velma was born March 28, 1904, at Bayard, Iowa, the daughter of William and Sophia (Lewis) Garnes.She was raised and educated in Iowa and was married to George W. Moore on January 16, 1924 in Perry, Iowa. The couple moved to Minnesota in 1936 where they began farming. Velma was a hardworking farm wife for many years. She enjoyed canning and freezing produce from her many large gardens through the years. She also enjoyed crocheting, embroidery work and making many quilts. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Blue Earth, where she was active with the church circle and ladies aide. George died in 1962 and Velma later moved into Blue Earth in 1965. She had been resident of the Mapelton Community Home since moving from her home at the age of 98. VELMA is survived by her aughter, Helen Latzke of Minneapolis, her daughter, Betty Beenken of Truman, her son, Richard (& Carol) Moore of Waldorf, her daughter, Georgia (& Robert) Wilson of Delavan, her daughter, Florence (& Ramon) Grams of Eau Claire, WI, her daughter, Joyce (& Delvin) Possin of Wells, her 25 grandchilden, 51 great grandchildren and 26 great great grandchildren .She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1962, 3 brothers- Ivyl & Earl Moore, an infant brother- Everett & 3 sisters- Hazle Schwartz, Gladys Moore and Pearl Beeson.
