She was born September 2, 1918, at rural Blue Earth, where Mr. & Mrs. Dan Schavey now reside. She was the daughter of Samuel and Martha (Schroeder) Steinberg. She attended and graduated from country school District 56 in Barber Township. She graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1938. Vera was engaged to be married to Delbert Bangs of Blue Earth. Delbert was serving in the U.S. Army Air Force during WW II when he was killed in a non-combat airplane crash in 1945. Vera continued to live and help her parents on the family farm NE of Blue Earth. She cared for both of them in their later years. Vera was a lifelong member of Immanuel United Methodist Church east of Blue Earth. She taught Sunday School for many years, was active in her church circle and United Methodist Women. She was also involved in Faribault County Extension Group for over 50 years, Farm Bureau, Faribault Co. Fair- where she was an exhibitor for 50 years, was Flower Superintendent at the fair for over 12 years and was former Fair Person of the Year. Vera never missed attending a Faribault County Fair that was held in her lifetime and had designed the Faribault County Flag flying at the entrance of the Fairgrounds. She was named the Outstanding Senior Citizen of Faribault County a few years ago. Vera was active with the Riverside Garden Club and the Faribault County Historical Society. She enjoyed flower gardening and shared flowers many times with her church, family and friends. Vera had recently gifted 32 acres of land to the City of Blue Earth to establish the Steinberg Nature Park which is currently being developed- this was one of her greatest joys. Vera is survived by numerous cousins from the Blue Earth, MN area, North Dakota, Iowa, Washington state and many friends.She was preceded in death by her fianc??, Delbert Bangs and her parents.
