George was born November 16, 1908, at Rosen, MN, the son of Fred and Mary Volkenant.He was raised and educated in the Rosen, MN. He farmed in the Rosen area for several years. He was married to Bridget M. Ahartz on October 27, 1931 in Rosen. In the early 1950''s, George began working for Green Giant Company. He came to Blue Earth in 1957 where he was a shop mechanic for Green Giant. He continued to work in the machinery shop until his retirement in 1976. For 14 years, following his retirement, George worked at the East Mound Rest Area on Intersate 90 near Blue Earth. He was a longtime member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church and enjoyed traveling, fishing, gardening, woodcarving and Sunday afternoon car rides. He especially enjoyed being with his family and the company of his siamese cat, Toby and dog Kita.George is survived by his daughter, Marie (& husband Dwan) Elliott of Plymouth, son, Steve (& wife January) Volkenant of Blue Earth, grandchildren: Dwan, Elliott Jr., Jack Elliott, Paul Elliott, Tim (& Darcy) Elliott, Tom (& Christie) Elliott, Jaysie Volkenant (& special friend Randy Witkop) and Mikkaela Volkenant, great grandchildren: Chasce, Matt, Alex, Megan, Amber and Callie Elliott.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife in 2001 and a brother - Anton Volkenant.
