Renwick Clair Young (Rennie) was born March 6, 1926 to Roy and Katherine (Faust) Young on the family farm west of Elmore, Minnesota. He lost his battle with cancer Monday April 4, 2005.He attended school in Minnesota and Illinois. In February 1944 he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was assigned to the newly commissioned destroyer USS Gregory DD802 and served in the South Pacific during the war.Following his discharge in May 1946, he returned to Blue Earth. He married Doris Furland, June 26, 1948 at the Liberty Fellowship Church in Guckeen, Minnesota. They became parents to three children.Rennie worked for Dewanz Plumbing and Heating where he learned the sheet metal trade. He worked for Vic Johnson in construction until Vic was killed in an accident. He also worked a short time for Klatt Motors and Ankeny and Wiederholt Construction.In 1954 he became a member of the International Bricklayers Union working on hundreds of projects throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. These projects included churches, schools, high-rises, banks, courthouses and various other buildings. He received his Gold Card in 2004. Rennie was also a member of the International Order of Operating Engineers.Upon retirement he enjoyed a woodworking hobby. He was able to fix anything, and if there was no part, he made one.Rennie was a member of the original crew (plank owner) on the newly commissioned ship the USS Gregory, a Kamikaze survivor, a member of the Tin Can Sailors, a member of the USS Gregory Association, lifetime member of the Blue Earth VFW and American Legion member for 36 years.He is survived by his wife Doris of Blue Earth, son Gregory and Sharon Young of Winnebago, daughters Jocelyn Hicks of Cottage Grove, and Patti and Dennis Pechacek of Lake Elmo, grandchildren Stacey and Joe Fabeck, Ryan and Laura Borris, Allen Hicks and fianc? Nikie Grass, Jennifer Pechacek and friend Charles Lewandowski, and Amy Pechacek, and three great grandchildren ? Amber and Megan Fabeck, and Lyndsey Borris, sisters Colleen and Oscar Zeisz of Alameda, California, Maurine Hoffman of Blue Earth, and brother Ronald and Moreen Young of Gilbert, Arizona, other relatives, friends, and special Navy buddies. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother & father-in-law, and two brothers-in-law.
