Matthew Moellenhoff

July 8, 1917 — June 17, 2005

He was born July 8, 1917, at Roberts County, SD, the son of Casper and Margaret (Burskin) Moellenhoff.Matthew entered the Army on March 25, 1941, during WWII, where he served in the Pacific Theater. During his service he earned the Philippine Liberation Service Medal with one bronze star, four overseas service bars, good conduct medal with bronze arrowhead and a combat infantry badge. He was part of the New Guinea-Luzon campaign. He was released from service on November 12, 1945 and soon made his way to Browns Valley, MN.He was married to Marian E. Evans on September 30, 1946 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth. The couple moved to Marian''s family farm near Elmore in 1950 and later to a farm near Blue Earth in 1970. Matthew was a lifelong farmer and has also worked for many years at the Elmore Tile Plant. He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and the Blue Earth Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4580.He is survived by his wife, Marian Moellenhoff of Blue Earth, son, Paul Moellenhoff of Minneapolis, daughter, Alanna Diaz of Blaine, son, Allan Moellenhoff of Minneapolis, son, Arno Moellenhoff of Beaufort, SC, daughter, Mary Moellenhoff of Minneapolis, daughter, Cheryl Larsen of Spring Valley, Wisconsin, son, Myles Moellenhoff of Inver Grove Heights,10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter in 1948, brothers-George & Bernard Moellenhoff, sisters-Teckla Moellenhoff, Elizabeth "Betty" Moellenhoff and Christine Maller.
