George E. Stensland, son of Gustav and Emma (Espe) Stensland was born April 7, 1926 near Radcliffe, Iowa. George died June 28, 2005 in Chandler, Arizona. He moved with his parents to a farm near Winnebago, MN, then to a farm in Pilot Grove in 1936. He attended country school and graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1944. He served in the Navy during WWII following high school. George was married to Jean A. Skagerberg on June 7, 1947. The couple farmed in the Blue Earth-Guckeen area for 20 years. He was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a 40 year member of the Blue Earth American Legion Post 89 since 1952, where he served as Avenue of Flags Chairman, Scholarship and Awards Program Chairman, Sergeant-at-arms for 7 years, adjutant and chaplain. He was also a past Post Commander and past County Commander. He was awarded life membership by his post in August 2001, his 50th year as a Legionnaire. He was currently a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chandler, Arizona.George is survived by his wife, Jean Stensland of Chandler, Az, daughter, Judy Hinrichsen and husband Jeff, daughter, Gloria Curtis, son, Tom Stensland and wife Priscilla, 7 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, brother, Donald Stensland and wife Dorothy, brother, Ronald Stensland and wife Marilyn, Lois Hornke and husband Russ, and sister-in-law, Marvis Stensland.He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister and 2 sons-in-law, Alfred J. Anderson and Gary Curtis.
