Leo M. Maland was born January 7, 1911, at Frost, Mn. the son of Joseph and Bertha (Mikkelson) Maland.He was born and raised in Frost. He graduated from Bricelyn High School and attended Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa and later graduated from St Olaf College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1932. Following his education he became the owner of Maland Supply Co., an affiliate of Texaco Co. He was married to Arline M. Kallestad on April 6, 1942 in Frost. Leo owned the station in Frost for over 40 years, retiring in 1978. He was a lifelong Frost resident where he was a past city mayor, was grandmarshall of the centennial celebration, was a member of the Sons of Norway and the Norwegian Historical Society. He was an active member of South Blue Earth Lutheran Church where he served as treasurer for 30 years. Leo had a lifelong interest in geneaology and spent many hours researching his family history. He was active on the South Blue Earth Cemetery Association where he put his geneaology skill to work keeping the cemeteries history in order.Leo is survived by his son, Joe (& wife Ruth) Maland of Galesville , Wisconsin, son, Paul (& wife Sue) Maland of Phoenix, Arizona, grandchildren: Brett, Michael, Ian & Jenna Maland, nephew, Dustin (& wife Betty) Malandand niece, Marsha (& husband Sam) Latkin.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife in 1993, a son- Jon Maland and a brother- Thilmer Maland.
