Gertrude was born October 12, 1918, in Pilot Grove Township, MN the daughter of John and Marcella (Simser) Simmons.Gertrude was raised and educated in Lakota, Iowa area where she graduate from Lakota High School in 1936. She was married to Earl H. Thompson on June 30, 1937 in Hebron Township, Iowa. The couple farmed in North Central Iowa, near Ledyard and Lakota, all their married lives and each drove a school bus for Lakota schools for 25 years. Following retirement the couple moved to Elmore, where Gertrude was a member of Shiloh Lutheran Church. She enjoyed doing hardanger and other crafts. She also enjoyed reading, had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed reading scripture and had a deep faith in God.She is survived by her daughters: Janice (& husband Larry) Ehrich of Elmore, Cynthia Kauffman of Muscatine, Iowa, Mary Richardson of Harris, Missouri, son, Phil (& wife Leslie) Thompson of Edgerton, 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, brother-in-law: Robert Ruby of Lakota, IA, sisters-in-law: Joyce Stenzel of Blue Earth, Judy Simmons of Hill City and Florence Dobson of Elmore.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1999, 3 brothers: Darvin, DeWayne & Donald Simmons, sister, Kathleen Ruby, 2 granddaughters: Sabrina and Cerrisa Thompson and 2 sons-in-law: Gail Kauffman and LeRoy Richardson.
