Myrtle Martin

March 2, 1912 — February 17, 2004

Myrtle was born March 2, 1912, at Ellsworth Township, MN., the daughter of John & Martha (Luthens) Smith.Myrtle was raised and educated in Ellsworth Township, MN. She was confirmed in and later married to Lester E. Martin at St. Peter''s Lutheran Church in Ellsworth Township, on May 10, 1932. The couple farmed there until coming to Blue Earth in 1936 where they continued to farm. In 1960 they bought their family farm north east of Blue Earth, where they farmed for many years. Myrtle was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was very active. She was also active in 4H, where she served as an adult leader, and the Faribault County Extension. She was an avid gardner, loved to can fresh fruits and vegetables and enjoyed sharing stories and good jokes with family & friends.Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Gloria (& Lyle) Quade of Frost, daughter, Mertice (Floyd) Reck of Faribault, daughter, Janet (Robert) Werner of Blue Earth, daughter, Lee Ann (Jeff) Njoes of Elmore, daughter, Rhonda (Craig) Harris of Queensland, Australia, son, John Martin (and special friend Kathy) of Corona, California., brother, Fred (& Evelyn) Smith of San Bernadino, California, sister, Evelyn Wentland of Bend, Oregon, sister, Mariel (Vernon) Tatchio of Salem, Oregon, sister-in-law, Edna Smith of Beaverton, Oregon, nineteengrandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2001, brother-Lloyd Smith, sister- Margaret Smith and brother-in-law, Emil Wentland.
