He was born March 10, 1926, at Minnesota Lake, the son of Herbert and Frieda (Besser) Zabel.Orville was raised and educated in Wells. He served in the Army during WW II, where he was stationed in the Phillipines. Following his services he returned to the Wells area. He was married to Margaret A. Minkel on May 15, 1950 in Mapleton and the couple soon moved to rural Frost. Orville was a farm worker with a few Frost area farmers before starting to work for Harlan Maland. He worked for Mr. Maland for 18 years. In 1973 he began driving a gas truck for Midland Coop of BlueEarth. The couple eventually moved in the city of Frost in 1978 and Orville managed the Frost Oil Co.- Conoco gas station. Orville worked at Klatt Motors and L&M Motors before retiring in 1996. Orville was a member of the Blue Earth American Legion Post # 89 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4580. He was also a member SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Orville loved to watch the Twins and the Vikings, but especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.He is survived by his wife, Margaret Zabel of Blue Earth, daughter, Debra (& husband Carl) Wentz of Blue Earth, daughter, Kristine (& husband Monte) Kroeze of Faribault, daughter, Sheryl (& husband Darrel) Danks of Hutchinson, daughter, Michelle (& husband Kevin) Dardis of St. Clair, son, Gene (& wife Janet) Zabel of Blue Earth, son, Jerry (& wife Tammy) Zabel of Blue Earth, son, Mark (& wife Karen) Zabel of Kiester, son, Brian (& wife Stacey) Zabel of Owattonna, brother, Donald (& wife Edie) Zabel of Wells, brother, Roger (& wife Linda) Zabel of Waseca, brother, Harold Zabel of Waseca, brother, Gordy Zabel of Vernon Center, brother, Duane (& wife Kathy) Zabel of Waldorf, sister, Alverna (& husband Roger) Bebler of Mankato, sister, Shirley (& husband Mark) Spalding of Cleveland, MN and 17 grandchildren.Orville was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marian Zabel.
